DOA 3 Tournament Wrap Up

I went back to look at the history of the DOA 3 tournaments.  It sometimes seems to me that we have this tournament allot.  The truth is for individuals we have only had this tournament twice before.    The last time we had this tournament it was back in April and twelve people showed up. Before that we had eight show up in December.  Other than that we have only had one team tournament.   Even though the game is not new anymore we had 15 people turn out to this tournament including both winners of the previous two, Jake and Fat.

The format for this tournament was as follows;  3 pools of players play everyone else in there pool.  The best winning record automatically advances to the finals.  The second best record goes to a wild card pool.  The third best would advance to the Last chance pool.  In the last chance pool only one would advance to the wild card pool.  In the wild card pool the top two would advance to the finals.   The winner would be determined by another round robin in the final pool.  Here are the results;

Pool 1

In this pool the Finals and Wild Card spots were easy to figure.  When it came to the Last Chance Pool however the three way tie messed things up a bit.  Considering the small size the pool would be I decided to advance them all to the Last Chance Pool.  Little did I know how big it would become.  The match between Heath and Dylan was really close.  It came down to the last bit of life of Heath before he was able to but Dylan away.

Pool 2

In this pool long time rivals (Friendly) Adam and Jake battled it out.  Adam gave Jake his only loss.  Despite there tied record at 3/1  Adam would go on to the finals because he won the match between the two of them.  Tie breakers are only held if it means elimination for a player or if it is in the finals.   In this case where both players advance to another round a tie breaker is not used.  The run for third however was another tie.  Much like in the first round I advanced them both to the last chance pool.

Pool 3

In this pool Lee's upset over undefeated Jerry put Lee into a tie with David for the Last Chance Pool.  This would now make seven people in that pool!  Despite his loss to Lee Jerry still managed to get in to the Finals and Tom was sent to the Wild Card Pool.

Last Chance

Due to the size of the Last Chance Pool I decided to take two to the Wild Card pool.  In this case Russ and Nate had a tie. (Gee another tie?  Go figure)  This time I had them settle it in a tie breaker.  In the tie breaker Russ moved on to the Wild Card pool.

Wildcard Pool

This Wildcard Pool featured a strong line up of talent.  Dylan when 3/1 in the qualifying rounds beating out Russ.  Russ would take revenge on Dylan in there rematch and get the win.  However this would not be enough for Russ as Tom and Jake both dominated and moved on to the finals.

Final Pool

I don't think I have ever seen a tournament were First and Second place both went to people out of the Wildcard Pool. Well in this case it happened.  Jake would get the last laugh on Tom as he walked away with the win in the finals after loosing to him in the Wildcard Round.  Jerry beat Tom in the prelims, but Tom was ready in their rematch.  And finally the last match seemed kind of anticlimactic as Jake really made fast work of Adam after loosing to him in the opening rounds.

Congratulations to Jake on a well fought final round as he defeated two opponents who got the better of him in previous rounds.

Hope to see you all on November 9th at our DOA3 Tag tournament.
