Capcom Vs. SNK 2 Tournament Wrap Up

The format for this tournament was as follows;  4 pools of players play everyone else in there pool.  The best winning record automatically advances to the finals.  The second best record goes to a wild card pool.  The third best would advance to the Last chance pool.  In the last chance pool only one would advance to the wild card pool.  In the wild card pool the top two would advance to the finals.   The winner would be determined by another round robin in the final pool.  Here are the results;

Pool 1

The match between Bryce and Dan was a good match.  Dan would win and go to the finals.  This would be the first time in the Pentathlon that Bryce would not advance to the finals from the prelims.  He now would have to fight his way out of the Wild Card pool.

Pool 2

In Jake's match against Scott,  Jake had several opportunities to put down Scott's first two characters with time to spare.  Jake however played around and let time run out both times.  This eventually came back to haunt Jake as he lost the match by only about a hit or two.  Had Jake not messed around he would have gained enough life back and would have had a much better chance to win.   Jake would now find him self in the last chance pool. Bobby and Colin's last match was against each other. Neither had a win so it was all for pride.  Matt moved on to the finals after beating Jake and sending him to the Last Chance Pool.

Pool 3

When it came to Adam and Dayne the each chose one level four character.  Adam chose Terry and Dayne picked Blanka.   Adam was holding his own for a while, but then Dayne got the upper hand and was able to get the win.

Pool 4

Ryan Vs. Taiyon was a very close match.  It looked as though Taiyon was going to be the winner but Ryan stayed strong a pulled out a great come back for a win.

Last Chance 

Taiyon proved his skills as he moved out of the Last Chance pool and moved on to the Wild Card Pool.

Wildcard Pool 

After only a few rounds Dayne and Bryce were on top and no others would be able to gain three wins.   Bryce and Dayne advanced to the finals.

Final Pool 

Despite the first round accusations of people throwing matches it should be pointed out that even if that were the case the end result for the Pentathlon would still bee the same. (At least as far a first place goes.)   But despite that controversy the finals were, as usual, great!  

Alli Vs. Matt C

This came down to both players using their last characters.  Both used a level two Sagat to round out their teams.  This came down to the very last hit.  It took me a minute to figure out who was the winner because it was so close and they were using the same character.  In the end is was Alli who took the victory.

Dayne Vs. Dan

This was another close match between two long time rivals.  This one came down to Dayne's Blanka Vs. Dan's Ryu.  Once again it came down to the very last hit.  Dan would get the victory.

Dayne Vs. Matt C.

This one could be the one that Matt let get away.  This is not to take anything away from Dayne as a player, but Matt had a fairly good lead near the end of this match and only needed to hit Dayne one more time.  Then Dayne rolled and Matt missed with an uppercut with Sagat,  Dayne came out of the roll with his Blanka's super and with less then seven seconds left Dayne took the victory from Matt.

  Bryce Vs. Dan

This match was indeed the closest match of the night, and the best.  For their last characters Dan was using Ryu and Bryce was using Terry.  Dan had Bryce down to the last pixel of life when Bryce pulled out with the win.  

Congrats to Bryce on the tournament.  For the Final Pentathlon results....
