CvS2 Tournament Wrap Up

The format for this tournament was as follows;  4 pools of players play everyone else in there pool.  The best winning record automatically advances to the finals.  The second best record goes to a wild card pool.  The third best would advance to the Last chance pool.  In the last chance pool only one would advance to the wild card pool.  In the wild card pool the top two would advance to the finals.   The winner would be determined by another round robin in the final pool.  Here are the results;

Pool 2

After setting up the pools I knew that this pool was going to be the toughest as far as depth.  Greg lost to Eugene in what what a very close match.  Then beat Arlo in another close match.  Arlo's 2/2 record was enough to get him in to the last chance round though.  As it turned out all three of them would meet again in the finals.

Wildcard Pool

This pool had some interesting matches.  First Jake almost beet Jeff but Jeff turned in on at the end to mount a great come from behind win over Jake.  Then the brother Vs. brother as Rob and Arlo faced off.  Despite the fact that Rob usually wins over his younger brother, Arlo was with his game in the Wildcard Pool.   When it came down to Arlo and Greg D they both already had three wins.  It didn't mater who won, since they were both going to advance to the finals anyways.  So they decided to have a fun match.  Greg and Arlo were in the same preliminary pool so this would be the only rematch in this pool.  Greg defeated Arlo once again as they headed to the finals.

Final Pool

The first match of the finals was between Bryce and Eugene.  This was the first match in the finals of the last CvS2 tournament.  And just like the last time this match was also a great one.  The match between Eugene and Matt C was also a great one.

The part of this story that I found the most interesting was Arlo's win over Eugene that in the end prevented Eugene from tying for first.  I find this particularly interesting because this was a rematch from the first round.  Arlo lost to Eugene and lost to Greg twice before the finals.  In the finals however Arlo was able to beat both of his preliminary rivals and tie for fourth.

Remember how I said in the last write up that the finals could have gone either way.  Well the results of this final proved that.  The last time we had a CvS2 hard core tournament Ali was the only one who didn't get in on the tie for second.  This time Ali more than made up for it by winning the over all finals.  It wasn't easy though.  Bryce was in good standings going in to the final round.  He was 4/0 and Ali was 3/1.  If Bryce won Ali would have to face Eugene for a tie breaker for second.  If Ali won he and Bryce would have to face each other again for the tie breaker for first.  The later happened and in the tie breaker Ali swept through Bryce 2/0.   Ali would win with a 4/1 and Bryce would get second with a 4/1.  Eugene would get third with his 3/2 record.

Here are the results.

Congrats to Ali.  Thanks to all who made it out to this one.  The first place prize was $80 and second was $20.  I hope to see a few more people for the Hard Core Tournament next month.  It will be teams so bring a partner.  $8/team.  Each team will select 2 ratio 2 characters. One player will start and they will pass off the controller when (or sometimes if) they are defeated.  Hope to see you all there.
