Worms Armageddon Tournament Wrap Up

It isn't very often that I actually participate in a tournament.  In fact I don't think I have been in one since the the Armored Core tournament in May.  Well I finally scheduled a tournament that I thought would be a fun change of pace that I could participate in.  Worms Armageddon!!  When I put in on the schedule I really didn't think enough people would turn out for it, but I figured why not?  If anything else it would be a break from the main stream tournaments.  

As it turned out 12 people would participate including myself,  so it made for nice even four man battles.  I would roll dice to see what round they would be in.  Then the last person to be eliminated would go on to a last chance round and the winner would go to the finals.  The first two to be eliminated would just be out of luck.

The first pool had;

Russ eliminated himself after being a little too fast with the lock-on for the homing missile. He blames me for breaking his concentration because I was talking.  I suppose if it makes him feel better he can blame me all he wants.

The second pool consisted of;

The surprise of this was Jake's comeback.  He started right off getting his worms eliminated.  And was in dead last place through out the whole match until the very end when the others fell and it came down to me and him.  I managed to finish him off, but Jake was able to go on the the Last Chance round.

The third pool;

This was kind of an upset of sorts.   If I an not mistaken Mike was one of the people who had never played the game before.  Kevin has played it quite ofte

n on the computer.  I forget how it went down, but I do know that Mike managed to get the win and Kevin went on to the Last Chance round.

Last Chance

This was a three way battle;

This came down to the wire with Jake and Kevin each having one worm left.  They were far apart on the battle field and it was simply a matter of who was going to get the first hit to win.  I thought I was going to have to hand out Snickers bars, because it didn't' look like we were going any were for a while. (Sorry I couldn't resist.)  Kevin would be the one who would get the lucky shot to win and move on to the finals.

The Finals

In the finals it was Kevin, Mike, Taiyon and myself (Shawn).  We all agreed that the first person to get two wins would be the winner.  It was a good thing for me that we did because Kevin won the first round and Taiyon won the second round.  It almost felt like I was in survivor as we were all trying to talk the others into taking out the other teams.  Kevin felt particularly upset because he won the first round and then after that he said everyone was teaming up against him.  Going in the the third round Mike and I still had not won.  We didn't actively make an alliance or anything, but I do know that I was more worried about Taiyon and Kevin since if either of them won it would have been over.  I was able to get a break and win the third round.   Now it was down to the wire, and the only way for another match to take place was if Mike could pull off a win.  Kevin and Taiyon went out and it came down to Mike and myself.  I had two worms left he had one.  I had buried mine below the ground to keep them bring getting an air raid dropped on them.   This seemed to work but when the round went to sudden death one of my worms was trapped by his on hiding place and the rising waters took him out.  So now it came down one worm with one hit left for each of us.  Taiyon and Kevin were both giving advice to Mike.  I was able to pick up another air-strike from the packages, and could have won right there, but I thought that would be a cheap way to win so I didn't.  Then the next round I used a ninja rope to position myself right next to Mike I used the classic uppercut to finish him off.  Kevin said that my use of the ninja rope was "Pure Art".   So in the end I was the winner.

Kevin and Taiyon battled it out one on one for second since they both had one win each.  I had already said that if I won the prizes would be handed down to second and third.  (Boy am I nice.)  Kevin was able to win to get second.

Thanks to all who came.  Especially those who have never played before.  I am pretty sure about half of the players were new to this game.  So a special thanks to those who made my win possible.
