CvS2 Tournament Wrap Up

With the Ultimate tournament about a month away, this tournament would be the first to test the waters and act as a prelude of what is to come.  26 people would be take fate into there own hands as they would draw numbers out of a hat for their placing into the brackets.  We used a 32 bracket set up so there would be chance for people to draw a by.  Here is the results of the top half of the first round.

In the first Semi finals it was Bryce Vs. Zeiram.  Zeiram would get the win and go on to face Matt C in the first round finals.

In the Semi finals of the bracket Nate unleashed the power of a level 3 Zangif on Matt.  This took Matt down to his last character, a level 2 Sagat.  Zangif had almost all his life left and began to take on Sagat.  Matt however was able to use keep it close and was able to get the win to go the the first round finals.

To be quiet honest I don't remember the finals all that well because of the semi finals between Matt and Nate.  However the bottom line remains the same.  Matt would defeat Zeiram and go on the the Tournament Finals, while Zeiram would go to the second round where he was awarded two free rounds for making it to the first round finals.

After his elimination in the first round Kevin decided in the second round to go with a Level 4 M. Bison.  This would prove to be quite effective as he able to advance to the semi finals with him.  In the first round he faced off against Dayne and his level 4 Guile.  Although Kevin dominated the match he wasn't able to finish Dayne off as Dayne was able to last until the time expired.  

Another noteworthy match was between Carl and Bryce.  This isn't because it was a good match, but because Carl would bring out everyone's favorite character..... a level 4 Dan!  While he did manage to take one of Bryce's characters out with him, he was not able to move on.   Oh well.  Nice try though.  

Debokin and Tojo would have an interesting match as well.  Both of them would bring out a level 4 Blanka.  This became a match of Blanka Vs. Blanka.   In the end Tojo would be victorious.

In this bracket there wasn't very much that stuck out in my mind except what I thought was the best match of the night.   Nate Vs. Mark "Bill Gates"  I am not sure anymore what there complete teams were, but in the end all that mattered was the level 2 Zangif Vs. the level 2 Zangif.  Both of these guys are really good with Zangif.  They both pounded on each other back and forth.  Special move after special move.  It was almost as if they decided to take turns executing the moves on each other.  They came right down to the very end with each person having about one hit left.  Mark would be the one however who would win the battle of the Zangifs, and move on to the second round finals.

Once again the finals were out shown by semi finals and were a bit anti climatic as Zeiram would defeat Mark to advance to the Tournament finals.

Matt Vs. Zeiram

With so much riding on the finals they were intense.  The atmosphere in the whole store changed from wild fun excitement to tense silence.   Everyone watched as these too would battle it out for first place.  This was more than just a battle for first place.  Without getting in to the entire history of this, I think it is fair to say that there was a lot of pride on the line as well.  Here is a pic of the final moment.  Click to enlarge.

The Battle for M. Bison

Drac Vs. Kevin

Wait there is more!!  For some time Kevin had been bugging me about buying a little M. Bison figure that I have had in the store since I took over.  Knowing that it wasn't worth much, but not willing to just give it away I was never able to come up with a price.   Drac also was interested in this figure.  They both approached me during the tournament and asked me how much I wanted for it.  They were prepared to start a bidding war.   Instead of being greedy and let the one with the deeper pockets win,  I decided that they could earn it another way.  Each would pick a level 4 Bison and battle it out.  The one with the better Bison skills would win the figure.

This turned out to be a great match.  Kevin came out and started with an early lead.  It didn't look like it was going to be much of a match.  Then Drac reversed the momentum and was able mount an incredible comeback.  It came down to who ever was going to get the last hit.  Who won?  Well check out the pictures below to find out.
