Capcom Vs. SNK Tournament Wrap Up

Capcom Pentathlon Game 5 (Final Game)

The format for this tournament was as follows;  5 pools of players play everyone else in there pool.  The best winning record automatically advances to the finals.  The second best record goes to a wild card pool.  The third best record goes to the sudden death or last chance pool.  Top three from the last chance go to the wild card pool.  In the wild card pool the top three advance to the finals.   The winner would be determined by another round robin in the final pool.  Here are the results;

Pool 1

In this pool Drac was able to upset Trigon and send him to the Wild Card pool while he would advance to the finals. (When there is a tie in records the winner between them is the one who goes to the higher level.)

Pool 3

This pool also had 6 people to begin with, but after two losses (Leslie) left.  While Nate ran away with this pool there was a three way tie for the Wild Card pool.  Debokin, Jeff, and Chris each had two wins.  Since a three way could not be decided by the who beat who method they would all go to the Last Chance pool.  That would open up a forth spot in the Wild Card instead of the three.

Pool 4

Besides the strange name used by one of the competitors in this pool this pool was our only strait forward pool.  Oh and some other person left after two losses.  Witch made me decide that I am going to have to mention to people that if  they can't be here for the whole thing, or until they are eliminated don't bother to enter.

Pool 5

Now if you have read the previous pentathlon write ups you will know that Bill Gates isn't THE Bill Gates.  As a matter of fact his name is Marc, but everyone refers to him as Bill Gates due to a strong resemblance.

This pool featured our only actual tie breaker match in the preliminaries.  Matt, and Dan each had two wins, and since this was for the Final Chance pool we had to have  a tie breaker where Matt was able to beat out Dan to advance.

Last Chance Pool

Due to the three way tie in the 3rd pool this pool had two more people then normal, and instead of three advancing to the Wild Card the top four would advance.

Wild Card Pool

Unlike last time when two of the of the Last Chance pool made it through to the finals, this time non of them would make it.  That is not to say they didn't make a difference as Chris was able to give Ali his third loss and knock him out of the running.  Unfortunately Chris's lack of respect for his opponent (Ali) made our sponsor pull back the third place prize money for the overall pentathlon.  (It was not commonly known, but there was a $50 second place prize that Raul won, and there was suppose to be a third  place prize.  Our sponsor felt that Chris's overall attitude throughout the pentathlon was unworthy of a prize that was not part of the original plan.)

Finals

This was absolutely crazy!  This was looking to be a tie for first between Nate and Zeram.  Each only had one loss going in to the last round.  Bryce and Trigon were locked into a tie for third.  Then Raul proved to be the wrench in Zeram's engine as he gave him a second loss.  This would now clear the way for Nate who would now have to beat Greg to secure first place all to himself.   Greg however would prove to be the wrench to Nate as he won making this event a 4 way tie for first!!!   For the prize we had a mini pool with the four of them.   Because this was so close the prize for this would be doubled!!  For the pentathlon purposes it will remain a tie for the points, but it was Nate who beat all three of the others in the tie breaker for the prize.
