Capcom Vs. SNK Tournament Wrap Up

As I sit here in the store at 12:00 a.m.  I am reflecting upon tonight's tournament.  This was by far the most anticipated tournament in Game Hits history.  It matched last weeks record turn out of 22 participants.   Why was this the most anticipated you might ask?  Well for those who follow the forum (shame on you if you don't) you already know that after last weeks tournament of Tekken Tag there was a lot of trash talking going on by one of the members of "Team Saginaw"  Most of this was good clean bragging except for one post that in in this writers opinion went a bit too far.  In any event it upset some of our Lansing participants and added a lot of tension on the forums for a while.  This was the setting going in to this tournament as some were calling it Lansing Vs. Saginaw.

What I found funny and a bit ironic was that it was another group that showed up in the same way that Saginaw showed up last week and took this tournament.  This time around there was a group from Flint.  One of them was calling us on a cell phone as he was running a bit late.  (Just like the guys from Saginaw the week before)   As he showed up I wrote him in to the tournament and kicked it off.

The format for this tournament is as follows;  5 pools of players would play everyone else in there pool and then the one with the best winning record would advance to the next pool of 5.  It would be there that the winner would be determined by another round robin for the final pool.  Here are the results;

Pool 2

This pool had to be settled in a tie breaker between Chris and Tony.  Tony had beat Chris in there match earlier, but Chris was able to force a return match by beating Matt.  In the tie breaker it was Chris who took it by redeeming himself against the only one who beat him in the bracket.

Pool 4

This pool featured one of the biggest comebacks in the tournament at Raul and Bryce went at it for the finals.  Bryce (who was the defending champion)   Had Raul's last character down to almost no life left when Raul pulled out a super that ripped more than half the life out of Bryce's last character.  This brought it down to who ever could get the last hit, and with the shift of momentum Raul was able to get it in as he (in my opinion) upset the guy who had beat him before the start of the tournament.   I guess Raul won when it counted though and that's all that matters.

Pool 5

After his loss to Dre and Tojo, Kevin was complaining about being in the though pool.  I looked at the other sheets, and didn't find any that looked easier to me since there was great competition in all the pools.  However since he did have to face Dre (the one who would go on to win)  I suppose I can't say he didn't have a good argument.

Final Pool

The final pool was had some very good match ups.  As usual I plan these things out so that the very last match is the one for all the marbles as Dre who was 6/0 for the whole tournament would go against Greg who was 7/0 due to an extra person in his first pool.  As they were getting ready they pointed out that it was a "Flint Final" as they called it.  Both were from flint and the one who was running late and called on his cell phone was Dre.  This would be the irony of the tournament as it would be Dre who would go 8/0 and win.  Ironic because it would be the second week in a row that someone new would show up after calling us on a cell phone letting us know he was going to be late, and win the whole thing.  Here were the final results.

Thanks to all who came, and congrats to Dre and Greg for their first and second place finishes.  If there was a good sportsmanship award Debokin would defiantly be a nominee as I noticed him shaking hands before every match.  And in the finals even though he was out of the running by that time he was joking about it and still having fun.  And lets face it having fun is what it's all about.
